As always, I, Dr. Deco, with my keen eye and uncanny ability to decipher the depths of all your Deco dilemmas, will no doubt unravel the mystery behind this most recent inquiry from one of decodom's decophiles, who remains anonymous to, me, the ol' Doctor.ANONYMOUS WRITES:
Dear Dr. Deco;
I recently came across these two bookends in a small marche puce in the great white north of Canada, eh? And I was wondering if you could give me the lowdown on them.
The identical waterfall shapes are made of ceramic and stand 4 1/2" tall. They are also hollow in an avocado green glaze with markings as follows:
"BEAUCEWARE"
" -247B- "
"CANADA"Can you advise me as to why these bookends are hollow and if they are complete or if they had an attached base that was removed. I would just love to know what their origin is.
Sincerely,
Anonymous
P.S. There is a small hole near the base of each piece as well.
Dear Anonymous;
By all means, understand, the ol' Doctor doesn't mean to be rude but boy, have you got your world mixed up. The truth of the matter is the two "bookends" you describe sure sound a heck of a lot like a pair of wall pockets. And a remedy as easy as taking a few aspirins is at hand. You merely invert them and pop a couple of hanging plants in them. As for the "holes" at the base of each "bookend", well it seems by pounding a hook into a wall you just might find that little hole rather convenient.
I trust I've answered your query and by all means if anyone else out there in decoland has a similiar or not so similiar question don't hesitate to -- "ask Dr. Deco".
