... AND YES THAT WAS DECO IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Grinell Industrial Park - This area is to Detroit in industrial deco as the south beach area is to Miami in tropical deco. With city airport expansion in limbo this whole area lies dormant destined to ruin.

McNichols Business Strip - Unfortunately this once proud avenue has fallen victim to urban blight. From Schaefer to City Airport its many deco structures that graced this thoroughfare have been radically transformed with vitrolite facades painted over with crude homemade signs hawking liquor and lotto or Mayan/Aztec deco relief's crumbling off the sides of poorly maintained or neglected. Buildings that once were some of the finest examples of Deco architecture in Detroit.

The Vanity Ballroom - Jefferson Ave., Detroit. This structure has been on our endangered list from it's inception. The condition of this gem has not improved despite our efforts to work with the owner to improve and restore it to a better state in not it's original state. Roof leakage has led to severe water damage and with out corrective action immediately this building is doomed

The Firestone Building - North Main and Market St. - Mt. Clemens Built in 1939, this building is an excellent example of streamline Art Deco. Used as the Firestone Tire Store until 1982 when it was abandoned, and the structure has suffered damage. This was formerly purchased by a development group headed by Gabe Anton for the purpose of a restaurant on that site. That does guarantee that the structure will remain in tact or standing.

Dix Gas Station - Melvindale This structure between Oakwood and Outer Drive, has been vacant for over a year. One of the last examples of roadside architecture from the Deco era is in danger from strip mall development
