President's Notes

For Art Deco aficionados, there is no time more wonderful than the Art Deco Christmas time ... all the reds, the blacks, the silvers, the graphics of the cards from the period, the cocktails, the wrapping papers with great zig-zag designs ... the "flappers" in the winter snowy nights-on-the-town in their fur wraps...

Happy Holidays and may this year bring all your deco wishes ... and more! Thank you for your support in years past and for sure in 1995, when the (always too few) events we invited you too were most successful. We apologize to the people we could not accommodate at the Lecture Day at the D.I.A. this past spring and will plan "grander" in 1996! Speaking of 1996 ... major quiz: do you know when the Detroit Area Art Deco Society came to life? That's right, major anniversary next year: D.A.A.D.S. is 10 years young. Are we going to have a ball? (Oops, did I just blow up a (so far) secret?)

Is there reason to celebrate? I would think so: the mere fact that a non-profit organization like D.A.A.D.S can exist for 10 years is reason to celebrate. It shows that a core of people with a sincere sense of dedication can create such an organization, but also that it can only survive if it has the support of a strong membership. At the eve of this anniversary, our membership roster is at an all time high and we celebrate that.

Our next MODERN newsletter will detail all our spring projects, from Preservation Week to the Southfield Modernism ... don't miss it! See you soon during our Gala 1996 Year.
