Dear Members,It was wonderful meeting so many new members as well as seeing old friends at the 10th annual membership meeting. Thanks to everyone that attended. The third annual Michigan Modernism show is upon us. Scheduled for the April 26th through the 28th, this show is shaping up to be the best yet. DAADS will again be the hosts for the Gala Preview Party Friday April 26th. Chairing the Honorary Committee are Scott and Roz Jacobson. Their support has been instrumental in the success of this event. The Monroe Big Band will supply the entertainment. They are an impressive 17 piece orchestra specializing in the "big band sound." They are fabulous! The roster of exhibitors hailing from all over the country is very impressive and you'll be sure to find that special item you've been searching for.
Other spring events in the works include Feather Bowling at the Cadieux Cafe and of course Preservation Week. Watch your mail for updates.
In August of 1986, a small circle of friends met for dinner at Suite Lorraine's. This was not just a little social gathering. They had a purpose. They established what is now the Detroit Area Art Deco Society. Their initiative created an organization I am very proud to be a part of and in this, our 10th year, I know you join me in thanking them. Doug Ramsey, Hope Palmer, Diane Reh, Hal Green, Emmett Bremer and especially Ann Duke and Ron Steinberg, we salute you.
I have had the pleasure and privilege to serve on the board for over eight years. Initially, I was a board member at large followed by the membership chair. For over two years now, I have had the honor of sharing the Presidency with Jacques Caussin. The Co-Presidency was a new concept for DAADS and worked very well for us. We have enjoyed our time in office, but feel it is time to pass the torch. Turnover in leadership gives an organization new life and enthusiasm. Our concerns are only for the growth, health and improvement of DAADS. We are confident DAADS will thrive in the capable hands of David Klein as President and Kate Ostrove as Vice President. They have worked diligently as board members and possess the qualities needed to lead us. We know you will give them your full support.
Jacques and I would like to thank everyone on the board for their hard work and tireless energy, humor and camaraderie. You always made us shine! Thanks to all the volunteers that made events the success they were. We could not function without you and we are grateful to have had the opportunity of working with all of you. I take with me many memories, lots of great stories, a few tears, a great deal of knowledge and friendships I will treasure, always.
Sincerely,
Kim Zuccarini
