DAADS held its first and definitely not its last gargantuan garage sale on October 10th. DAADS members and those who should be members (hint, hint) were treated to an astonishing array of some of this area’s best Arts & Crafts, Deco and fifties furniture, pottery, lighting, clocks, accessories and more!
Early birds started lining up the night before and were wrapped around the building for the 10 a.m. Saturday opening. OK, it wasn’t the night before, but there were a lot of people at the front door by the time we opened.
Deco devotee Tom Rusinow exclaimed, “Better than Moderism!” as he proudly displayed his celestial Deco bookends. New board member Tom Verwest was overheard saying that, “New York had nothing on this show.” President Robin Cohen and show organizer Bob King beamed with delight over the positive response to the sale. Just about everyone found something they just had to have.As the saying goes, “a good time was had by all.” Plans are already in the works for the 2nd annual sale at a much larger venue—How big is Cobo Arena?
