I'm sorry it's been awhile since you've heard from us, but this issue is well worth the wait! So read on - we'll catch you up on everything that's been going on as well as everything that's coming up!
I recently sent out a letter to you, our members, in search of people wanting to assist in the planning of the upcoming Modernism show, and was thrilled at the response. Unfortunately, my day planner was lost shortly afterward; and with it, the names of all those who graciously offered assistance. I was able to partially reconstruct the list of names, but I know I missed one or two. If I did not get back to you, please accept my sincere apology and give me a call at 248-705-g665. We would still love your help, as well as anyone who would still like to be part of the planning of DAADS' largest fundraiser.
The 2nd annual Great Lakes Modernism Show & Sale is coming up October 17-19, 2003, and plans are already under way for a Gala Preview unlike any you've ever attended. I can't divulge specifics, but a spectacular "theme" will tie the entire event together from the DAADS exhibit to the food and festivities of the evening (Shhh, you didn't hear it from me!). Mark your calendar now to be there October 17th for the exciting preview!
If you weren't able to attend our fabulous movie night at the Redford Theater in February, "Back Stage Pass," you'll get a glimpse of what you missed when you read Kathie King's review, "Movie Palace Memories," highlighted on the cover of this issue. DAADS sponsored this evening to help The Redford Theater raise funds for their ongoing preservation efforts; and to that end, we raised approximately $1,500.00 to add to their fund.
The movie night attendance was actually over double what was expected; and as a result, the check to The Redford Theater exceeded our goal. Almost as important, everyone had such a wonderful time; DAADS is already planning another movie night at The Redford Theater. This is the true mark of a successful DAADS event, and many thanks go to Bob & Kathie King for planning a very memorable evening.
Other great articles you must read include the fashion article, "Vintage Chic," by Ron & Lucy Ortiz with fabulous photos by Jeff Hargis. Learn about the interesting history of Shelley Pottery and Bakelite in this issue, as well.
The next issue, our fall issue, will be The Modernism issue and will double as the show's Program, as well. It promises to be another very exciting edition, and we look forward to presenting it to you in late September. See you then!
