By Rebecca Binno Savage & Gary SpondikeA New Take On The Modern World
The Detroit Area Art Deco Society (DAADS) is excited about a new "modern" partnership. This year, DAADS will be participating in both the Michigan Modernism Exposition, held in April, and the Great Lakes Modernism Show, held in October.
This April marks the tenth annual Michigan Modernism Exposition, promoted by M & M Enterprises, and is a testament to the success and popularity of 20th Century decorative arts and collectibles.
DAADS returns to the show with an informational membership booth. Rebecca Binno Savage will be signing copies of the new book she co-authored, "Art Deco in Detroit" at the Friday night preview. Member volunteers will be on hand throughout the weekend to inform you of DAADS many worthwhile endeavors, exciting upcoming events, and membership opportunities. We encourage you to stop by and visit during the show. While the Deco Society's role will be different than in past years, our focus is to celebrate the Modern movement at both of these two great shows. DAADS will also be working to increase general awareness of the Society's ongoing preservation and educational efforts.
"The more opportunities we have to communicate and promote the Detroit Area Art Deco Society, the bigger impact we'll be able to make on the surrounding community as a whole."
- Rebecca Binno Savage, DAADS, PresidentBoth shows present unique opportunities for collectors of all ranges. Each show has a core audience that appreciates 20th Century design and decorative arts. It is this audience that provides DAADS with our membership base and opportunities to support and fund various programming through out the year. Our association with both shows and their promoters is a great step in building the future of DAADS."
- Gary Spondike, DAADS, Vice PresidentWe thank Barbara, Michael, & Matthew Butler for letting us again be part of this celebration of Modern Design. It's great to be back!
A Welcome LETTER FROM M & M ENTERPRISES
We are delighted that the Detroit Area Art Deco Society is participating in the Michigan Modernism Exposition 2004. Their renewed involvement in this show marks a turning point for the organization in their support of the major Modernism events in the Michigan community.
Congratulations to the newly elected President of the Detroit Area Art Deco Society, Rebecca Binno Savage and to Gary Spondike the new Vice-President. Their energetic involvement over the years in DAADS, as well as their professional experience make them both uniquely qualified for these positions. We wish them and the rest of the Board of Directors all the best, and feel confident that under their leadership the Detroit Area Art Deco Society will continue to serve the community in its very worthwhile endeavors.
The Preview Party benefactor this year is ArtServe Michigan. We feel very fortunate to have them on board and are certain that their involvement will be an asset to the Michigan Modernism Exposition. ArtServe Michigan, www.artservemichigan.org, is a statewide arts advocacy organization that supports and advocates for the arts and cultural education in the state of Michigan. ArtServe Michigan accomplishes its mission by working with artists, educators, cultural organizations, businesses, volunteers and others through statewide programs, services and a variety of collaborative efforts.
