DAADS ATTENDS "AN EVENING WITH EAMES" PREVIEW

On Thursday, February 1st, prior to the opening of The Henry Ford Museum's Eames Lounge Chair exhibition, the museum held an Eames Preview Reception.

Among the overflow crowd of over 500 attendees at the reception, was a strong contingent from the Detroit Area Art Deco Society. The evening's preview party was awash with local dignitaries and The Henry Ford Museum supporters that included about 25 DAADS members and their guests. We all enjoyed the exhibit, sampled interesting and unusual food and listened to pleasant music while sipping our cocktails and meandering through the Eames exhibition.

The Eames Lounge Chair exhibit, which runs until April 29th is not limited to the Eames Lounge Chair but includes other Eames designs, some original Eames drawings and sketches, photographs and two movies that loop continuously. One movie shows the introduction of the Eames Lounge Chair on the Arlene Francis NBC Home Show in 1956 and the other features the making of the Eames Lounge Chair.

An appearance by Eames Demetrios, the grandson of Charles and Ray Eames, highlighted the evening. The original Eames Lounge Chair.
