Dear Members and Friends:
Hello! I would like to start by letting you all know what a great experience it has been for me to be connected to the Detroit Area Art Deco Society. In what feels like a very short time for me, the society has grown and evolved over the years to an exceptional organization with dedicated members, an overly supportive board of officers/ members and our fine board of trustees. Everyone's continued support of our organization is proof that we're all connected and love Modernism. From restoration to preservation, collecting or even just appreciation it's the movement that we all move forward together.
As you might have guessed by now I'm official presiding over the group as President with an excellent team beside me. I'd like to thank Rebecca Savage in her tour of duty but also thank all the previous Presidents that have worked to develop and enhance DAADS. The Society continues to grow and expand, and with your assistance we can set new goals and achieve them. Whether you are an individual member or a board member I ask you to let me know if you have any ideas or thoughts on helping the organization continue to grow. You can drop emails to me at garyspondike@daads.org or a note to our address.
Wow it's hard to believe it's already here The Michigan Modernism Exhibition and Preview Party. This year marks our 12th year that we have had the opportunity to host the preview party and continue our partnership with Michael Butler's team at M & M Enterprises. This year April 27th is bigger and better than we could have ever expected with our new friends at the Henry Ford Museum, the team at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, The Satin Dolls are performing this year and we've got new food, new faces and a vintage fashion show that will take you back to the 1930s. I encourage you all to put this date on your calendar. Tickets are available online at daads.org and if you're available to lend a hand and take a volunteer roll we've got a place for you too.
Well that's it for this issue. We have a few details to wrap up and I would like personally thank all those on this years Modernism committee. In no special order as you all know how important you are to making this great event happen. Ron, Lucy, Amy, Rebecca L., Al, Rebecca S., Jeff, Issac, John, David, Tom, Kim, Bob, Kathie, Mick and anyone and everyone else that has pulled together to produce this event. See you at the show!
Regards,
Gary Spondike
