- Michigan Modernism Preview Party
-

It’s preview party time for the Detroit Area Art Deco Society as the mid-century enthusiasts open up the Michigan Modernism Exposition on April 26, 7 - 10 p.m. The annual art deco affair offers you and your guests first dibs on some of the best 20th century antiques and fine arts from the international market while enjoying complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres.
This year we’re pulling out all the stops as Cari Cucksey of HGTV Cash and Cari joins us as our honorary chair for the Friday night preview party.
We’re stepping up the hors d’oeuvres as 2 Unique Catering steps in to present a large variety of the super delicious sweets and savories for you to enjoy all evening.
Think it can’t get any better then step back as we envelope the entire venue with modern classics to set the tone for our evenings guests.
Lastly a treat for your eyes as we’ll have on view a vintage 1931 Studebaker President Eight.

Preview party tickets are $65 in advance and can be purchased now online or by calling 248-582-3326. Proceeds from the preview party benefit DAADS scholarship, restoration and preservation programs.

- Corrado Parducci Birthday Party
-
March marks an important, though mostly unknown holiday for Detroit: Corrado Parducci, the man beyond the Masonic Temple's interior, the Guardian Building's Native American guards, the Buhl Building's flora and fauna, and the sculpture and ornament adorning dozens of other Detroit buildings, would have been 113 years young this month.
Join us at the Sky Bar in the David Stott Building to hear from historian and scholar, Jennifer Baross about Parducci's stunning work in that and so many other Detroit buildings. The Parducci Society will join us in throwing a proper birthday party (favors and all, folks) for a man who worked side-by-side with Detroit's best architects, but who so few of us know by name.
Date & Time: Thursday, March 14, 2013, 7:00 pm
Location:
Sky Bar
1150 Griswold St.

- Arts and Crafts Weekend in Asheville

Spring 2008 DAADS ModernBy Theresa Shepherd
In February, a couple of like-minded friends and I made a pilgrimage to attend the 21st annual Arts and Crafts Conference at the historic Grove Park Inn and Spa in Asheville, North Carolina. I call it a pilgrimage because this is like heaven for Arts and Crafts enthusiasts. And it felt like we were in heaven when we finally arrived at the inn. The first things we noticed were NO SNOW and flowers in bloom!
